No new equipment. It works with what you already have.

People ask us what to buy. Nothing. MulingStream runs in a browser on a laptop or a tablet and takes its sound from whatever you already use. You set it up once, and every week after you just press the recording button.

“In general: the setup is quick, easy and straight forward!”

For the clearest sound.

What we tell every sound team before their first service.

Use a free output of the desk

Send the same sound your speakers already carry into the laptop, from a free output or an aux send. A small USB audio interface is the usual way in. A mix with only the voices gives the cleanest result.

Choose the input in the room

In the room, choose the audio input the desk is connected to, and watch the level move when somebody speaks. That is the whole check.

A steady connection

The laptop or tablet at the front needs a steady internet connection. Ordinary Wi-Fi is fine. Listeners can use the Wi-Fi or their own mobile data.

Earbuds while you test

When you test with phones close to the device that is listening, use earbuds. Otherwise that device hears the translated voice and translates it again.

Songs and worship

Leave it running. Fed from the speaker's microphone or a separate channel, the songs mostly stay out, and pausing and starting again is one click.

The same code every week

Your QR code and link stay the same week after week, unless you change them or make new ones. Print it once.

“Some commented on the delay between original sentence and translated version. But when I explained the ‘context based’ concept of the app, [they] immediately agreed. In German preaching and talks (…) we love to create long and complex sentences, and we often have crucial keywords pretty much at the end of a paragraph. So the ‘context based’ concept is very useful and helps to improve the quality a lot.”

Put the captions on the screen or TV.

MulingDisplay shows the captions on any screen that can open a web page. Choose the layout, the text and the colours, and try every setting below.

Captions over your own picture.

MulingDisplay can run with a transparent background, so your streaming or presentation software lays the captions over your slides or your camera picture.

Open the display as a browser source, choose the zones, and the captions follow the speaker live.

Test it before anybody else does.

Join our 24/7 demo room as a listener, or run a speaker room for ten minutes. No sign-up for either.

“I also used the ‘Invite’ function several times … very helpful feature when the QR-code is not at hand …”

Run your own room for 10 minutes.

Speak into your microphone and watch your words reach the listeners in their own language within seconds.

Join our demo room, live right now.

Our 24/7 demo room never stops. Choose a language, read the captions or hear the voice, and watch the Smart Hints appear under the lines.

Questions sound and media teams ask

What exactly do we need to buy?

Nothing new. A laptop or a PC that can open a browser, connected to the internet. To bring the desk's sound in, most teams use a small USB audio interface, or the laptop's own audio input if it has one.

Which output of the mixer should we use?

Any free output that carries the voices: an aux send, a matrix or a spare bus. The main mix works too. A mix with only the speakers' microphones gives the cleanest captions, because the music stays out.

Can we use an iPad with the sound desk?

For a sound desk feed we recommend a laptop or a PC, where choosing the audio input is simple and dependable. A tablet is ideal for the other set-up: standing in front of the speaker as the microphone.

We have no sound desk. Will a tablet really pick up the speaker?

Yes. Stand the tablet or phone in front of the speaker, close to where they talk. It picks up speech strongly and mishears very little. In this set-up listeners follow on their own phones; captions on a screen need the sound desk and laptop set-up.

Does it work with ProPresenter, OBS or our livestream?

MulingDisplay runs in a browser and can use a transparent background, so streaming software such as OBS can lay the captions over your slides or your camera picture as a browser source. There is no plug-in to install.

Can we show the captions on our screens or TV?

Yes, with MulingDisplay. Open it on any screen with a browser, choose a layout, and pick what each part of the screen shows: a language, the Smart Hints, or a QR code for joining.

How good does the internet need to be?

The laptop or tablet at the front needs a steady connection; ordinary Wi-Fi is fine and a cable is steadier still. Listeners do not need your Wi-Fi: they can use their own mobile data.

Do we need to set it up again every week?

No. You set it up once. Every week after, open the room and press the recording button. Your QR code and link stay the same unless you change them.

How do we test it before the service?

Run the speaker demo for ten minutes, or open your own room and speak into it with a phone in hand. Use earbuds on any phone near the device that is listening, or it will hear the translated voice and translate it again.

A film or a video is part of the programme. Is that translated too?

MulingStream translates whatever speech reaches its input. If the film's sound goes through the desk into the same input, it is followed like any speaker.
