How MulingStream began: from one Sunday to the first line of code

MulingStream is Mulingai's first product, and it began on a single Sunday in August 2024, when a translation could not keep up. This is the whole story: the idea, the first line of code, the name, the company, the flame, and the day we opened the doors. From our journal, published the day our site opened.

From our journal. We kept notes from the very first days, and we published them on 24 September 2025, the day the site opened for early access. The dates in this post are the days things actually happened. Each part has its own full story on the Mulingai blog.

11 August 2024: the Sunday it started

It began during an ordinary worship service in a church in Denmark. Our founder's wife, whose heart language is Persian, was listening to a Persian interpreter feed. That Sunday it lagged behind the preacher and missed too much, and she switched it off. She sat through the rest of the sermon unable to follow the message she had come to hear.

That was the moment the idea of MulingStream was born: what if everyone in the room could hear the whole message, live, in their own language, on the phone already in their pocket? Not a summary afterwards, and not a version that arrives late and broken, but the sermon itself, faithful to what the preacher means.

She came to hear the Word, and the language stood in the way.

3 October 2024: the first line of code

Seven weeks later, on the afternoon of Thursday 3 October 2024, the first line of code was written. The project already had a name: Mulingai. That same evening the first piece that actually did something arrived, a simple recorder that captured a speaker's voice. Before you can translate a sermon live, you have to hear it.

From the first notes in the code, the direction was churches: which languages a congregation needs, and how translation should be set up for a service.

12 October 2024: the name MulingStream

In its first days the live translation had working names. On Saturday 12 October 2024 it got the name it still carries: MulingStream, Mulingai's way of streaming one speaker's words to every listener, each in their own language. One word, with a capital S.

The rest of that autumn was evenings and weekends. Between October and December 2024 more than four hundred changes went into the code, all of them before there was a company, a customer or a website.

10 January 2025: a company to stand behind it

A prototype can live on a laptop. A service that churches rely on every Sunday cannot. A church needs to know who stands behind the thing it puts in front of its congregation. So on 10 January 2025, Mulingai ApS was founded in Denmark, with one conviction from the first day: language should never keep anyone from the message.

The mission behind it is Mark 16:15: "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature." We started with the church, and we built for everyone who speaks to a room.

The flame

Our logo is a flame with a sound wave inside it. The flame stands for passion and energy, the fire of a message worth carrying to everyone in the room. The sound wave is the voice: the words being spoken, streamed and carried into another language as they are said. And there is no globe in it, on purpose: our mark is about a voice, not about a map.

24 September 2025: the doors open

Through the spring and summer of 2025 MulingStream grew into something a church could trust on a Sunday morning: the speaker's side, the listener's side on the phone, signing up, the account. On 24 September 2025 the site opened for early access, and these journal notes went up the same day.

Today MulingStream carries sermons, conferences and gatherings into 200+ languages, live, on the phones people already have. It still comes back to the same Sunday: nobody should have to switch the translation off and sit through a message they cannot follow.

MulingStream gets its own website

Since 13 April 2026 MulingStream has its own home at mulingstream.com, with everything about live translation for churches, conferences and events in one place. mulingai.com is now the company site, and your account still lives there: one account for everything we make. Why we gave each product its own website is in one company, a website for each product.
